I hike…a lot. I love the outdoors, I love exploring, and I love Fredericton and the Capital Region. If you’re like me, you love it too. So where do I go to get my kilometers in? I live in the Rural Community of Hanwell and we have extensive trails that lead in all directions one could quite easily get lost in them so I don’t recommend venturing out unless you’re prepared and know where you’re headed and how long you’ll be out. All that to say, we also have a lot of marked trails in the area. Here are just a few:
Hanwell Park in Hanwell just off Route 640. O’Dell Park in Fredericton, it’s a beautifully kept green space right in the heart of the city. Woolastook Park offers hiking and biking trails just southwest of Fredericton. Crabbe Mountain is a lovely area North of Fredericton and the snowshoeing trails are a great place to hike. The Maliseet Trail is just 45 minutes from Fredericton towards Woodstock and has a beautiful waterfall called the Hay Falls. Head towards Saint John and near the little town of Welsford you’ll find Mt Douglas and the trail system there is stunning once you’re at the top of Bald Peak (Oh and there is a great spot to Boulder and Climb if you’re equipped to do so…stay safe)
I know I’m not mentioning all my favorite trails on here but maybe I can do multiple posts later but in the mean time there are apps available like Trail Forks and some from Patagonia and The North Face that show many of the trails in our region
Happy hiking…stay safe and always let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to return, charge the cell phone and bring water and snacks in your hydration pack
